Hematology and Oncology Associates of NEPA has a full-time career opportunity available for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.  Ideal candidate will be familiar with hematology and oncology practices, clinical research and a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care. In addition, will have prior experience with a genetics risk assessment program or have an inherent interest.  The facility is a single specialty group and the largest hematology and oncology practice in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant practices as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team using standardized procedures to independently examine, diagnose and treat patients in collaboration with supervising physician(s).  The incumbent will manage acute and chronic complications of cancer diagnoses and therapies; along with managing hematological conditions; in this role the Nurse Practitioner has prescriptive authority.

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant provides anticipatory guidance, patient and family education, and psychological and emotional support as well as support and counseling at junctures in care.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, required; Additional certification in Oncology Nursing (OCN, AOCN, CPON), preferred.  If Physician Assistant - Graduate of AAPA/NCCPA accredited Physician Assistant Studies Program.

  • Current authorization and license to practice in an expanded role as a Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant in the State of Pennsylvania; Current certification from a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the State of Pennsylvania.   PA - Current NCCPA certification.

  • Minimum of 1-year oncology nursing experience or 1-year Nurse Practitioner experience.  Oncology Nurse Practitioner experience preferred; but will train the right candidate.

  • Currently possess PA license and Federal DEA numbers.

  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

  • Complete 100 hours of CME according to national and state regulations during each 2-year period of employment



Our successful candidate will have a strong desire to work with patients and their families.  Prior experience with genetic risk assessment program and Palliative Care, preferred.  Additionally, the candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrate concern for the health and well-being of others, have superior written and oral communication skills, as well as computer literacy including electronic medical record documentation and the ability to work both as a team member and independently.
