Summary of Position:

The Diagnostic Scheduler is responsible for assisting the providers and nursing staff by scheduling a variety of outpatient diagnostic tests.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures timely administration of diagnostic testing to ensure accurate patient care by selecting medical facilities where patients should get their testing done and deciding which patients (based on need) should be scheduled first.

  • Assist and informs patients by maintaining patient contact and solving any problems they may have concerning their diagnostic test, which include insurance coverage, referrals, medication, preparation, and appointment time.

  • Ensures accurate precertification for diagnostic testing by contacting insurance companies for precertification’s or approvals for testing.

  • Maintains accurate patient information by recording non-attending appointments in the electronic medical record with proper comment notations.

  • Assist physicians by handling and ASAP requests they may have in a timely fashion.

  • Maintains workflow within the diagnostic queue by coordinating with other schedulers and nurses.

General Skills/Requirements
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years prior experience within the medical field

  • Prior knowledge of medical terminology, required.

  • Prior experience with medical diagnostic scheduling, highly preferred

  • Excellent computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, Electronic Medical Record, etc.)

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Attention to detail; excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize within a fast-paced environment

  • High level of flexibility and ability to multi-task

  • High level of customer service / customer focus, required
